Aggregate Base Course has many desirable properties. Base Course in pavements refers to the sub-layer material of an asphalt roadway and is placed directly on top of the undisturbed soil (Sub-Grade) so as to provide a foundation to support the top layers of the pavement. It is typically made of a recipe of different sizes of aggregate rock inclusive of 1.25″ to fine dust. Our aggregate is made from recycled asphalt, concrete, and natural rock.
Aggregate Base is used as the base course under asphalt pavement roadways, under concrete slabs and structural foundations, and as backfill material for underground pipelines and other underground utilities within a roadway. It is placed by means of attentive spreading and compacting to a minimum of 95% relative compaction, providing the stable foundation needed to support a pathway, foundation, driveway or roadway.
Asphalt millings are a byproduct of bituminous asphalt that runs through a milling machine then run through a screener to achieve a fine bituminous asphalt aggregate. It makes a wonderful surface mix when installed over the top of any good base material or even well compacted clay surface. The outcome is an all weather surface somewhat looser than finished hot mix, but will tighten very nicely over time to give you a dust free/mud free surface that is about 1/3 of the cost of installing new Hot Mix.
As its name indicates, screened topsoil has been screened to remove rocks, sticks, clumps, and other matter that is larger than the 1/2" screen size. It is created by sifting the topsoil through screens with different sized meshes. You can choose how fine or coarse you want the topsoil to be.
Screened topsoil is good to use for making a base for a flower or vegetable garden, filling lawn areas, or planting trees or shrubs. Screened topsoil is usually suggested for working in areas that will be filled to 1 inch or more. Screened topsoil can be laid on top of the unscreened layer. It can be mixed with compost, manure, or peat to enrich the soil even more.
If you are interested in our spoil dumping program, all contractors are required to contact our office and set up an appointment to review the material. We accept clean rock, stone, gravel, concrete block, high strength concrete and bituminous concrete (asphalt).
